Career Highlights: Earned Third Team All-America honors from The Associated Press and First Team All-Big East recognition as a senior. Naismith Award finalist.
Senior (2005-06): Finished second on the team in scoring (18.5 ppg) and third in steals (37). Scored a season-high 28 points twice in wins over Marquette and Syracuse. Scored 20 or more points 16 times. Overcame an eye injury suffered in the Big East Tournament and scored 25 points in Villanova’s second-round win over Arizona in the NCAA Tournament. Recorded his only double-double of the season (23 points, 10 rebounds) in win over Notre Dame. Hit 88 percent of his free throws. Surpassed the 2,000-point mark this season.
Junior (2004-05): Named Second Team All-Big East. Led the Wildcats in scoring (16.2 ppg). Averaged 17.5 points in two Big East Tournament games. Surpassed the 1,000-point plateau in December. Hit five three-pointers in a game four times. Scored 26 points in a game twice against Albany and West Virginia. Scored a season-high 27 points twice in games against Kansas and Providence.
Sophomore (2003-04): Named Third Team All-Big East and First Team All-Philadelphia Big Five. Led Villanova in scoring (17.3 ppg), minutes and three-point percentage (.392). Scored 23 points in win over Virginia Tech in NIT second-round game. Scored 20 or more points 12 times.
Freshman (2002-03): Averaged 9.9 points. Scored in double figures 15 times. Had a season-high 19 points in win over LaSalle and 18 points against Boston College.
Strengths: A potent perimeter shooter with good range and quick feet. Able to draw contact from opposing players, and his tough-nosed approach transfers well to the defensive end where he displays tenacious energy.
Personal: Son of Allan and Larnel Ray. Has a sister (Judith) who will play basketball at Rutgers in the fall, and two brothers. Played with former N.C. State standout and current Denver Nugget Julius Hodge at St. Raymond’s HS.
