Career Highlights: Named Honorable Mention All-America by The Associated Press as a senior. Earned First Team All-America honors by AP, USBWA and Sporting News as a junior. Finished career as Providence’s all-time leading scorer with 2,138 points. Finished fifth in school history in rebounds (1,028) and sixth in double-doubles (40). Scored in double figures in 104 of 116 career games.
Senior (2004-05): Named to the All-Big East First Team for the second straight season. Became the second player in school history to lead the Big East in scoring in league games (23.2 ppg) and overall (21.6 ppg), joining Erick Murdock. Had 33 points and 14 rebounds against West Virginia. Tallied 37 points and eight rebounds against Connecticut. Named USBWA District 1 Player of the Year.
Junior (2003-04): Named to the All-Big East First Team. Led team in scoring (18.9 ppg) and rebounding (9.4 rpg). Scored in double figures 25 times, topping the 20-point mark on 13 occasions. Posted 13 double-doubles. Scored a season-high 28 points against Texas and Seton Hall. Tallied 26 points and 12 rebounds against eventual National Champion UConn. Had 25 points and 13 rebounds in an NCAA Tournament opening-round loss to Pacific.
Sophomore (2002-03): A Second Team All-Big East selection. Led the team and ranked 21st in the nation in rebounding (9.7 rpg). Also led Providence in scoring (18.4 ppg). Posted 17 double-doubles on the season and scored 20 or more points in 15 games. Posted 21 points and 13 rebounds against Georgetown in the Second Round of the NIT.
Freshman (2001-02): Earned Big East All-Rookie Team honors. Finished the season with the second highest scoring average (13.8 ppg), field goal percentage (.559) and rebounding average (7.8 rpg) all-time for Friar freshmen. Set a freshman record with 31 points, and recorded a game-high 12 rebounds, against Miami.
Strengths: Proficient scorer on the block, who can also step out and make the mid-range jumpshot. Excellent offensive rebounder who gets to the free throw line and shoots a high percentage.
Personal: Son of Teresa Gomes and John Brooks. Major is social science. Favorite sports teams are the New York Yankees and the San Francisco 49ers. Favorite athletes are Allen Iverson, Kevin Garnett and Vince Carter.
