Early entry candidate for the 2004 NBA Draft. Originally committed to play at USC. Played three seasons at Garces Memorial High School (Calif.), then transferred to Bakersfield for his senior campaign. Rated among the top five centers in high school basketball this past season.
High School Career Highlights: Led Garces to the state semifinals three years straight. Ended his high school career with 2,044 points, the ninth-best total in Central Section history. He also had 1,503 career rebounds, the section's second-best mark.
2004 Postseason All-Star Games: Played for the West team in the McDonald’s High School All-American game and tallied 10 points and four rebounds in 19 minutes, as the East posted a 126-96 victory. Had 17 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks as the West defeated the East 124-110 in the EA Sports Roundball Classic.
Senior (2003-04): Averaged 18.8 points, 15.9 rebounds and 6.2 blocks. Was named MVP of the California Prep Invitational Tournament in December after scored 20 points to lead Bakersfield to a 50-46 Championship Game win over Clovis West.
Junior (2002-03): Averaged 19.7 points, 11.4 rebounds and 4.7 blocks
Sophomore (2001-02): Averaged 14.5 points, 11.4 rebounds and 5.0 blocks.
Freshman (2000-01): Averaged 11.0 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.1 blocks.
Strengths: Has excellent hands and footwork for a player his age and likes to finish with authority. Uses large wingspan to block shots and is a decent passer out of the post.
Personal: Is a big fan of superhero action movies.
