An early entry candidate for the 2004 NBA Draft. Transferred to Oak Hill Academy for his senior season, after attending McEachern High School in Powder Springs, Ga., for three seasons. Originally committed to play for Indiana. Named a 2004 McDonald’s All-American and played in the McDonald’s High School All-America game. Named to PARADE Magazine All-America Team. Named to 2004 USA Men's Junior National Select Team.

High School Career Highlights: As a senior, set a single-season Oak Hill record for most points with 980. Was a finalist for the 2004 Naismith Award. Two-time First Team All-State selection at McEachern High School. Named MVP of the Adidas ABCD Camp in the summer of 2003.

2004 Postseason All-Star Games: Tallied 15 points, three rebounds and three assists in the EA Sports Roundball Classic. In the Nike Hoop Summit against top international competition, scored a game-high 27 points on 12-for-18 shooting, as the USA Select Team rolled to a 99-79 win over the World Select Team. Was named Hoop Summit MVP. Scored seven points in 19 minutes in the McDonald’s game.

Senior (2003-04): Averaged 25.8 points, 7.4 rebounds, 6.0 blocks and 3.0 steals as Oak Hill went 38-0, was ranked No. 1 in the nation by USA Today and named National Champions. Shot 61 percent from the field and 70 percent from the free throw line.

Junior (2002-03): Averaged 20.6 points, 11.6 rebounds, 6.0 blocks and 4.0 assists.

Sophomore (2001-02): Averaged 19.8 points, 9.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists.

Strengths: One of the top athletes in the draft. Has extraordinary leaping ability. Uses long arms and quick jumping ability to grab rebounds and is an excellent finisher on the fast break.

Personal: Son of Paulette and Pete Smith. Has a brother, Walter (19) and three sisters: Phebe (16), Kasola (20) and Shanti (25). Wants to get into sports broadcasting when his playing career is over. Nickname is “J-Smoove.” Favorite NBA player is Tracy McGrady. Favorite team is the Sacramento Kings. Received the “Academic Award” at Oak Hill for highest grade point average maintained during the 2003-04 season.
