Career Highlights: A member of the Brazilian National Team and a former member of Brazil’s Junior National Team. Earned a bronze medal with Brazil at the 2001 Goodwill Games. Prior to moving to F.C. Barcelona in February 2002, dominated the Brazilian League in his first season at the top level. Averaged 17.7 points, 9.7 rebounds and three blocks. Was named MVP even though he left to play in Spain.

2003-04: Appeared in 27 regular season games for F.C. Barcelona, averaging 7.5 points and 4.4 rebounds. In Euroleague action, averaged 7.7 points and 5.1 rebounds. Had his best game of the season against Cibona of Croatia, tallying 15 points, 10 rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Had 13 points, 11 rebounds and four steals against Partizan Belgrade.

2002-03: Played three games for F.C. Barcelona in the ACB before the team decided to use him only in Euroleague games. In Euroleague play, scored 17 points in 22 minutes against Benetton Treviso of Italy. Turned in his most complete game of the season against Alba Berlin of Germany, collecting 12 rebounds, nine points and five blocked shots.

2002 World Championships: Played for Brazil in Indianapolis, averaging 9.2 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.1 blocked shots while playing 28 minutes per game. Shot 40 percent from three-point range.

2001-02: Midway through the 2001-02 season, switched to F.C. Barcelona in Spain, making his ACB (Spanish League) debut February 10, 2002. Had been having a fantastic season in his native Brazil for Franca Sau Paulo. In nine Euroleague games, averaged 4.7 points and 4.0 rebounds in 13.4 minutes per game.

Strengths: Athletic forward who runs the floor well and makes plays around the basket. Plays with great energy.

Personal: Is the younger brother of Sandro Varejao, who played in the Big East Conference at West Virginia.
