NBA Draft 2001: Wednesday, June 27
Jason Richardson

Jason Richardson
No. 5 pick, Golden State Warriors

Q: Are you surprised about getting picked by the Warriors?

Richardson: I was a little surprised to be picked by the Warriors. I figured I was in the five, six, seven range, that's what my agent was telling me. I was kind of shocked that they picked me, but I'll take it as a good thing and just try to go out there and have some fun.

Q: Did you know they had a real interest in you?

Richardson: I knew they had a little interest in me. I think I had a pretty good workout, and showed that I work hard and will continue to work hard once I get to the NBA and I think I made a good impression on them.

Q: Did you do anything specific in the workout that they really liked?

Richardson: I don't know specifically what I did, I think I just went out there and gave it my all and when they interviewed, I thought that went well, too. I think they were impressed with me overall, on and off the court.

Q: Do you think, with Larry Hughes in Golden State, you might play some small forward?

Richardson: Yeah, I think I'll probably play some small forward. I think I'm pretty much interchangeable. I'm just going to be ready for whatever they want me to do.

Q: Are you excited about heading out to the coast for some warmer weather?

Richardson: Yeah, that's a great feeling right there. Now, all my family and friends want to come out there. They want to get away from the cold weather in Michigan and have some warm summers.
