Celtics Exercise Option on 11th Pick in 2001 Draft

BOSTON, June 12 -- The Boston Celtics announced today that they have exercised the option on the 11th pick in the 2001 NBA Draft.

The pick was acquired by the Celtics on August 2, 1999 when Boston traded Ron Mercer, Popeye Jones and Dwayne Schintzius to the Denver Nuggets for Danny Fortson, Eric Washington, Eric Williams and a number one draft pick.

The Celtics will now have the 10th (their own), 11th (Denver's) and 21st (from Phoenix) selections in the upcoming draft. The 21st pick was acquired on August 16, 2000 in a four-team trade. In the deal, Danny Fortson was sent to the Golden State Warriors and in return the Celtics received Robert Pack, John "Hot Rod" Williams and what ended up being Phoenix's 2001 first round pick.

The 2001 NBA Draft will take place on Wednesday, June 27th.
