Pre-Draft Analysis

Areas Of Strength
The Knicks are beginning to show the patience needed to build something that can last. With Kristaps Porzingis, Frank Ntilikina and whomever they select at No. 9 this year, they have three Lottery picks – Porzingis and Ntilikina are just 22 and 19 years old, respectively – to develop. New head coach David Fizdale should have the opportunity to install a more modern system that can be a foundation for something more substantial down the line.

Needs Work
Porzingis' ACL tear could keep him out for most or all of the 2018-19 season. Even with a handful of healthy rotation players returning next season, Fizdale will have to start from scratch on both offense and defense. The Knicks ranked in the bottom 10 on both ends of the floor this season, with an offense that took too many mid-range shots and a defense that fell apart after Porzingis' injury.

Two Stats That Matter
8.9 -- The Knicks were outscored by a league-high 8.9 points per game from 3-point range. They ranked in the bottom four in both 3-point percentage (27th) and in the percentage of their shots that came from 3-point range (29th).

96.0 -- The Knicks allowed just 96.0 points per 100 possessions in 366 minutes with Frank Ntilikina and Kristaps Porzingis on the floor together.

The Way To Go
The Knicks need help everywhere and with Porzingis able to play the four or the five and Ntilikina able to play both guard positions, they shouldn't have any positional restrictions when making their picks. Still, they need someone who can create off the dribble, and there should be some good perimeter talent available at No. 9.
