Prospect Analysis

Strengths

  • Length (7-1 wingspan)

  • Gets to the free-throw line a lot

Weaknesses

  • Needs to get bigger and stronger
  • Average athleticism

  • Defense has to become more consistent

NBA projection: Ross has been projected as a second-round pick.

2013-14 Season

Ross was asked to increase his production, and he did that, leading the Buckeyes in scoring and rebounding and starting all 35 games. He earned third-team All-Big Ten honors from the league’s coaches and was an honorable-mention pick by the media.

Key statistics: 15.2 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 0.8 apg, 0.7 spg, 1.7 tpg, 29.0 mpg, .447 FG, .353 3PT, .732 FT

Cool statistic: As a sophomore, Ross used 12 percent of Ohio State’s possessions. As a junior, that increased to nearly 21 percent.

What Insiders Say

Ohio State coach Thad Matta

“LaQuinton was an instrumental part of our success over the last three years. His goal is to compete at the highest level possible. He will have that opportunity because of the work he has put in to prepare.”

What Outsiders Say

Arizona coach Sean Miller

“I really believe if you look at Ohio State's winning streak, when he enters the game, it changes things in a very positive way for their team. … When you start watching games when they insert him in with Deshaun Thomas and him as the frontcourt, it's really difficult.”
