- Great rebounder
- Dominant on the offensive glass
- Good scoring touch in the post
- Isn’t an explosive athlete
Howell skipped the Portsmouth Invitational, but plenty of scouts caught his act this season, when he was the most dominant rebounder in the ACC and a solid offensive player as well. He’s been projected as a second-round pick, and though Howell is undersized for the power forward position, he’s got a chance to stick on an NBA roster because he’s strong, tough, and a great rebounder.
Howell earned first-team All-ACC honors from the media and second team from the coaches after leading the league in rebounding and becoming one of just two ACC players to averaged a double-double. He also paced the league in double-doubles.
12.7 ppg | 10.9 rpg | 1.7 apg | 1.6 tpg | 1.1 spg | 0.8 bpg | 31.6 mpg | .570 FG |.648 FT
Howell is only the fifth player in NC State history to record more than 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds, and the first since Tommy Burleson (1972-74).

What Insiders Say
NC State coach Mark Gottfried
“We are starting to get to the point where we are taking for granted almost that the guy is getting double-doubles almost every single game.”
What Outsiders Say
Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski
"Of all the players in [the ACC], he’s the unsung hero, the unsung great player in our league. He is such an easy guy to play with; he puts up amazing efficient numbers, big time numbers. That kid is terrific. He’s just absolutely terrific."
