Lost in conference semifinals to Boston
DRAFT PICKS:
Draft Trade
• Sixers acquire Pick 27, Arnett Moultrie for Pick 45 Justin Hamilton and a future first-round pick
Areas of Strength:
Defense and athleticism. The Sixers ranked third in defensive efficiency, defending the 3-point line well, while also keeping their opponents out of the paint. They were also a top-five defensive rebounding team, despite a lack of size up front. They didn't force a lot of turnovers, but when they got opportunities to run, few teams were better in transition.
Needs work:
Scoring. The Sixers grew quite a bit in the postseason. And over the course of their 13 playoff games, they displayed an ability (that we hadn't seen before) to execute down the stretch against good defensive teams. But they still need to a go-to guy or two, somebody who can get into the paint and get to the foul line consistently.
Two stats that matter:
11.2 -- The Sixers turned the ball over just 11.2 times per game, the fewest of any team since turnovers were first recorded in 1977.
21.7 -- The Sixers attempted just 21.7 free throws per 100 field goal attempts, the lowest free throw rate in the league.
The way to go:
The Sixers have youth and depth in the backcourt, but need help up front. Lavoy Allen, taken with the 50th pick in last year's draft was a revelation in the playoffs. But Spencer Hawes is an unrestricted free agent and Elton Brand has just one more year on his contract.
