DRAFT PICKS:
Areas of Strength:
The Warriors are set at four of the starting spots, health willing. That's good news for a franchise long in search of roster stability that will finally deliver a playoff appearance. The backing of an aggressive management team that will spend and push for trades is an intangible that cannot be overstated.
Needs Work:
That "health willing part." Andrew Bogut and Stephen Curry are both coming off a season ruined by injury, and Bogut's medical chart pre-dates 2011-12, so depth is a particular concern. The Warriors need to do as well as last season at finding help. And they can't afford to do as well on defense and the boards. They have to do much better.
Two Stats That Matter:
30 -- Finish in rebounding percentage in 2011-12.
37 -- Age of rookie Bob Myers, the second-youngest general manager in the league, behind Oklahoma City's Sam Presti.
The Way To Go:
The Warriors will probably look hard at trading No. 7 for an established player with sights on making the postseason rather than developing another lottery pick. If they keep the choice, small forwards will be considered, likely Harrison Barnes if he is there or Perry Jones III. But for a team so desperate for inside help, especially on the boards, Ohio State banger Jared Sullinger has to be an attractive option.
