*Good shot blocker
*Can make face-up jump shots with range to 3-point line
*Has to get bigger and stronger
*Hasn’t played a lot of high-level basketball
*Free-throw shooting needs work
NBA scouts have seen plenty of Griffin’s calling card, a dunk against North Carolina A&T in which he took flight at the free-throw line and rammed it home. It’s a YouTube staple and appeared on ESPN2’s “Dunks of the Year,” special. Anyone with Griffin’s length and jumping ability will get a strong look. He’s been projected second-round to undrafted, but he’s a potential crowd-pleasing, high flyer that can’t be overlooked.
Griffin was a first-team All-Big South pick after ranking seven nationally in field-goal percentage and 27th in blocked shots. He led the Big South in field-goal percentage and blocks, was third in rebounding and ninth in scoring.
15.7 ppg, 8.6 rpg, 1.5 apg, 2.7 tpg, 0.9 spg, 2.4 bpg, 30.3 mpg, .610 FG, .367 3PT, .568 FT
In only two varsity seasons and 60 games, Griffin finished third on Campbell's career blocked shots list (134).
Reminds me of:
What Insiders Say:
Campbell coach Robbie Laing
“We’ve barely seen who he is,” Laing told ESPN2. “His dunk showed his freakish athletic ability, but he’s also a basketball player. He’ll be on ESPN more times.”
What Outsiders Say:
Iowa coach Fran McCaffrey
“I don't think we'll play many the rest of the season who are as good as he is [after Griffin led an upset victory with 23 points, 13 rebounds and six blocks]. Anyone ever heard of him? He does this every game, though."
