*Terrific size and great length
*Very mobile and agile for his size
*Good endurance and decent lateral quickness
*Decent jump hook and can finish with his off hand
*Needs to add strength particularly to his lower body
*Shooting is a work in progress
*Still not a good rebounder or defender
*Lack of toughness when boxing out
A player with his size, length and agility is something you don’t see very often. He still has a long way to go and is very far from being a solid, dominant center in a high level setting. However he has intriguing tools and room to improve. He can be a worthwhile mid-late second round pick if a team is patient and monitors his development during the next few years.
He signed a multiyear contract with Efes Pilsen and was loaned to Mega Vizura (Serbian first division) during the last two seasons. Cantekin showed promising strides this season as the starting center of a very young and talented group. He scored 24 points and grabbed 18 rebounds, both season highs, against BKK Radnicki on April 11, 2012.

Reminds me of:
Mark Eaton, 7’4 guys don’t come along very often
What Insiders say:
Chris Denker, NetScouts Basketball
“Cantekin is a huge presence yet he is very mobile and agile. His athleticism is decent, he can rebound and can block shots. He hasn’t been playing at top competition but some team with take a chance on someone 7’4 with skills.”
Rafael Uehara, The Basketball Post
“A guy with his size, length and agility is something you don´t see very often. Still has a long way to go, far away from being a solid, dominant center for a high level competition, but has intriguing tools and room to improve.”
Luka Bassin, International Scout and Coach
'A very mobile big guy who can run the floor extremely well, but is physically inferior. Can follow or roll and finish close to basket (he depends on his teammates). On defense he can block shots (great wingspan and feeling) and rebound but his biggest weakness is man-to-man defense.'
Danny Mills, Assistant Coach, UPEA Orlandia Basket
"Standing at 7'2" and with a standing reach of 9'4" Cantekin's size alone intrigues scouts. Although he is quite mobile for player his size and shows good agility up and down the court he lacks any real skill set offensively and really struggles on the defensive end of the court. Its possible that with decent showings at this years Eurocamp and some workouts an NBA team may take a chance on him late in the second round due to his size and potential over the next few years to improve."
