San Antonio Spurs Team Overview

2010-11 record: 61-21

First place, Southwest Division

Lost in first round to Memphis

DRAFT PICKS:

Round: 1

#29 : Cory Joseph

Round: 2

#59 : Adam Hanga

Areas of strength:
The hoop trinity of Duncan, Ginobili and Parker were a good enough core to win 61 games during the regular season and will keep the Spurs in the upper half of the playoff race next year. George Hill continues to improve, Gary Neal was a revelation and a healthy Tiago Splitter should break into the rotation.

Needs work:
Oh, don't they wish they hadn't re-worked Richard Jefferson's contract to keep him for another three years? He has now flamed out in the playoffs two straight seasons. With DeJuan Blair having a drop-off in his second year and Antonio McDyess planning to retire, they desperately need a big body to do the dirty work and play power forward.

Two stats that matter:
12
-- Consecutive 50-win seasons, tied with Magic Johnson Era Lakers as longest string in league history.

6.2 -- Increase in points allowed by the defense from the previous season.

The way to go:
They are caught in a difficult spot, needing help for the Big Three, but never drafting high enough to get the kind of blue-chip talent that can step in and help right away. Coach Gregg Popovich has made them an up-tempo offensive team, but at the cost of their defense. They need scoring help at small forward and any kind of help at all at the power forward spot or else Duncan, Ginobili and Parker are going to wilt from having to do all the work again.

Offensive: 109.4 (2nd)
Defensive: 102.5 (9th)
