DRAFT PICKS:
Areas of Strength:
For the next year at least, the Magic don't need a center, making them one of the few teams that can channel their attention elsewhere. To a lesser degree, point guard is secure as well. Jameer Nelson gives Orlando a steady ballhandler, but he's not much of a distributor.
Needs Work:
Orlando could use a healthy supply of scoring on the swing positions. They grabbed (and have since shipped off) a declining Vince Carter two summers ago and former free-agent signee Rashard Lewis was never a volume scorer. Jason Richardson, the latest Magic wing scorer, is a free agent.
Two Stats That Matter:
6.0 -- That's how many assists Nelson averaged, making him among the lowest of starting point guards. But Orlando can't find anyone better.
9.0 -- That's how many fewer points per game Turkoglu gave Orlando this year compared to four years ago, which allowed him to make lots of money on the market.
The Way To Go:
Of those players under contract for 2011-12, the Magic are looking at getting scoring from J.J. Redick, Gilbert Arenas or Richardson at the guard and small forward spots. That won't keep teams from doubling on Dwight.
