Utah Flash Completes Basketball Staff

Osbourne Named Assistant Coach, Young Director of Basketball Operations

PROVO, Utah, Sept. 26, 2007 –The expansion Utah Flash of the NBA Development League has completed its basketball staff with the addition of assistant coach Dale Osbourne and director of basketball operations Kevin Young, according to an announcement today by general manager David Fredman. The Flash is a direct affiliate of the Utah Jazz and the Boston Celtics of the NBA.

Osbourne, 43, comes to the Flash after serving in the same capacity for the Austin Toros and late NBA great Dennis Johnson last season. He brings 17 years of coaching experience and versatility to the Flash that includes stints in the USBL, CBA and WNBA prior to coming to the D-League.

From 2004-06 Osbourne was head coach of the USBL Dodge City Legend, and also served as the team’s general manager in 2005-06. He led Dodge City to consecutive regular season and division championships in 2004 and 2005, and was named the 2004 USBL Coach of the Year. The Legend won the USBL championship in 2004-05 and reached the finals the next season. In seven years as an assistant at the University of South Alabama, Osbourne helped guide his alma mater to a pair of Sun Belt Conference titles.

Young, 25, joins the Flash from the Shamrock Rovers Hoops in Dublin, Ireland, where he served as general manager and head coach. He guided the Hoops to the Nieva for Men Irish Super League Playoffs for the first time in four seasons.

Young also served as an assistant coach at Utah Valley State College (2005-06) in Orem, Utah, working with guards and post players, as well as video breakdowns and scouting. Prior to that, he was an assistant at Oxford College of Emory University (2004-05) in Oxford, Ga. A player at Clayton (Ga.) and Middle Georgia College, Young helped lead both UVSC and Oxford to some of the top won-loss records in school history.
