RIO GRANDE VALLEY EARNS 99-94 WIN AT TULSA

TULSA, Okla., March 2, 2012— Lazar Hayward was strong with 30 points and seven rebounds and Marcus Lewis recorded his 26th double-double of the season with 17 points and 12 boards, but the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (22-16) topped the Tulsa 66ers (16-22) by a 99-94 final Friday night inside the Tulsa Convention Center.

Also scoring in double figures for Tulsa was Larry Owens with 20 and reserve Delroy James with 11.

Hayward, who was assigned by the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday, went 3-for-5 from long range in 35 minutes of action.

“I thought Lazar played with great effort tonight and showed a lot of leadership skills,” Tulsa 66ers head coach Dale Osbourne said. “He knocked down some big shots and looked great defensively out there.”

The 66ers, who led by as many as 13 on the night, racked up 16 assists on the offensive end, led by Jerome Dyson with five dishes.

Defensively, Tulsa forced 23 Vipers turnovers and created 13 steals, led by Robert Vaden with four thefts.

“Rio Grande Valley did a great job tonight of finding and knocking down big shots,” Osbourne said. “I thought we had moments where we played great as a team, and we will come back tomorrow night ready to battle.”

Leading RGV in scoring was Marshall Brown with 20. Will Conroy added a double-double with 14 points and 10 assists.

The 66ers and Vipers return to the court Saturday night, March 3, with a 7 p.m. CT matchup inside the Tulsa Convention Center.
