The Tulsa 66ers officially opened their 2012 training camp on Saturday morning at the SpiritBank Event Center. Tulsa's 16-man roster was formed through last week's NBA D-League Draft along with four returning players, two players invited back after open tryouts and two Oklahoma City Thunder training camp invites.

Saturday's practice was the first under new head coach Darko Rajakovic. A native of Serbia, Rajakovic is the first head coach born outside of North America in NBA D-League history. Read more about Rajakovic's and his journey to the NBA D-League here.
Following the first training session, Coach Darko spoke with Tulsa66ers.com to discuss his first practice at the helm of a professional basketball team in the United States.
We also talked with Dominique Sutton, Tulsa's first round selection in the 2012 NBA D-League Draft. Sutton, the sixth overall pick, comes from North Carolina Central University, where he averaged 16.6 points and 7.4 rebounds during his senior season. Prior to NCCU, the guard played three years at Kansas State.

On what the team needs to focus on in these first practices...
ďI think that defense is the key. For us, as a very young team and a team that needs to develop throughout this season, itís very important to have a very good base on defense. We need to be very focused on our defensive coverages and what we want to do in different situations. Just to teach the Tulsa 66ers system. Also, itís very important to prepare the team for the start of the year. We donít have a lot of time, so we need to introduce our offensive schemes as well and try to get better with each game and each practice.Ē
