66ers Host Preseason Youth Clinic

TULSA, Okla., November 16 - The Tulsa 66ers hosted a preseason basketball clinic for kids competing in the Indian Nations Basketball Conference, sponsored by Academy Sports and Outdoors, on Saturday afternoon inside the SpiritBank Event Center.

Tulsa players Grant Jerrett and Larry Owens helped lead the campers in warm-ups, drills and learning some essential basketball skills. The camp, a part of NBA D-League Cares Week, marked the 66ers first player community appearance of the 2013-14 season.

Its a great experience to help teach these kids the game of basketball, said Jerrett. You get to see them have fun and see them smile, which is a great feeling.

The clinic hosted two sessions broken up by age groups and featured a total of 100 kids in 1st-8th grade. The participating campers are members of teams in the Indian Nations Basketball Conference from around the Tulsa area and will use the skills they learned Saturday throughout their 2013-14 seasons.

Among the most important of the lessons that were taught at the camp were playing hard and being a good teammate.

Its always good to be out here with the kids, said Owens. Its nice to try and be a role model for these kids and give back and teach them the game of basketball.
