66ers Come up Short to Vipers

HIDALGO, Texas, March 26, 2013 The Tulsa 66ers fell to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, 104-94, on Tuesday night at State Farm Arena in Hidalgo, Texas.

Oklahoma City Thunder assignee DeAndre Liggins scored 17 points to go with nine rebounds and three assists. Fellow Thunder assignee Daniel Orton collected seven points, three rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots.

Rasual Butler led the 66ers with 27 points after making seven 3-pointers. As a team, Tulsa made a season-high-tying 13 3-pointers for the second game in a row.

Tulsa jumped ahead of the Vipers, 25-19, after closing the first quarter on a 16-6 run. The Vipers responded with by outscoring the 66ers, 33-21, in the second quarter to take a 52-46 lead into the half.

Butler came out of the halftime break with the hot hand, sinking five 3-pointers in the first five minutes of the third quarter. The NBA veteran scored 19 third-quarter points, the most by a 66er in any quarter this season.

Liggins posted 12 fourth-quarter points despite the 66ers being outscored 28-21 in the final frame.

The 66ers (25-19) outrebounded the Vipers, 48-45, pulling down 16 offensive boards.

Rio Grande Valley (30-15) were led by Terrence Jones with 25 points, 11 rebounds, seven steals and five assists.

The two teams will face off again Wednesday night in Hidalgo at 7:00. The game will be aired live on YouTube and Tulsa66ers.com.
