66ers Celebrate 'Read Across America Week'

TULSA, Okla., March 1, 2013 - Tulsa 66ers players Brady Morningstar and Hollis Thompson took a timeout to celebrate Read Across America Week at Union Public School’s Boevers Elementary on Thursday.

Read Across America Week is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that encourages children across the country to celebrate reading in honor of Dr. Suess’ birthday.

“It’s a lot of fun coming into the community and interacting with the kids and showing them that reading is a priority and it’s fun,” said Thompson.

The 66ers duo read a Dr. Suess book to over 50 kindergarteners and demonstrated that reading can be a valuable and entertaining experience.

“Programs like this are great because reading is a priority and it’s great when the kids can see role models like basketball players reading,” said kindergarten teacher Carmen Stalensky.

The Tulsa 66ers take many reading timeouts throughout the season, and also participate in a variety of other outreach programs to show appreciation to the Tulsa community.
