Legends Announce Next Step Dance as Dance Team Partner

Dance Team Tryouts to be held August 6

Frisco, TX (July 19, 2011) – The Texas Legends have partnered with Next Step Dance Performing Arts Center for the upcoming season. As part of the partnership, Next Step Dance will produce and direct the 2011-12 Legends dance team.

“The Legends presented a tremendous opportunity for Next Step Dance,” Next Step Dance Director Michelle Stafford said. “This is a great way for us to enhance our presence in the community while partnering with another first-class organization. While the Legends are the training ground for the NBA Champion Mavericks, the dance team will be the training ground for the Mavs dancers.”

Stafford led Next Step Dance to the New York City Dance Alliance National Championship in 2010. The dance group has consistently won top local, regional, and national honor awards, along with numerous dance scholarships since Stafford founded the center in September 2008.

Next Step Dance announced the tryouts for the 2011-12 dance team will be held on Saturday, August 6. Registration will take place from 3:30-4:30 pm, with tryouts beginning at 5 pm. Participants must be 18 years or older at the time of tryouts, and complete the necessary paperwork to be eligible.

Tryouts will be coordinated by Legends Dance Team director Jennifer Contreras, whose experience includes being a Mavs Dancer, assisting former Mavs dance team director Shella Sattler, and the current drill company director at Next Step Dance.

“I’m extremely excited to grow this dance team into the best dance team in the NBA D-League and look forward to seeing these dancers develop and one-day become Mavs dancers,” Contreras commented. “It’s going to be a great season!”

“We are proud to partner with Next Step Dance for the 2011-12 season and beyond,” Legends president Bill Boyce said. “Its involvement will complement our game atmosphere, which was designed by Donnie Nelson, and is a truly unique basketball meets circus, family entertainment experience. Perhaps Next Step Dance can even teach me a few new dance moves.”

Boyce participates in the Legends game presentation via the fan-favorite promotion “Boogie with Bill” on a nightly basis.

Next Step Dance is located at 6106 Frisco Square Boulevard.

The Legends recently announced that all center courtside seats for the 2011-12 season have been sold. Only a handful of premium seats remain, and performance opportunities such as halftime acts and national anthem choirs have also become very limited.
