Hairston Becomes First NBA D-League Alumni Taken in First Round of NBA Draft

Frisco, TX (June 26, 2014)--The Texas Legends are proud to announce forward PJ Hairston was selected by the Miami Heat with the 26th pick in the first round of the 2014 NBA Draft.

With this selection, Hairston became the first player to be selected in the first round of the NBA Draft after playing in the NBA Development League.

Hairston was acquired by the Legends in January of 2014, becoming the first player in history to enter the D-League mid-season after having been enrolled in college at the beginning of the season. Hairston chose to forego his junior season of college and take an uncharted path through the D-League to the draft after the University of North Carolina decided not to reinstate him. In his three months with the Legends he averaged 21.8 points and 3.5 rebounds.

"Couldn't be prouder of PJ," Legends owner Donnie Nelson stated. "All his hard work and dedication has paid off. Being the first D-League first round pick in the history of the NBA makes him a TRUE Texas Legend!"
