Tulsa 66ers win over the Springfield Armor 90-74
The Armor started tonight’s game off strong as Major Wingate threw down a dunk less than 4 minutes into the first quarter. Wingate continued to run the first quarter for the Armor with a total of 7 points, followed closely by Maurice Maxwell at 6. Tulsa’s Larry Owens and Mustafa Shakur kept the 66ers alive as the lead changed 5 times and finally ended in a 22-20 lead at the end of the first. The 66ers would keep the lead for the remainder of the game.
In the second quarter Brayden Billbe scored his first points with the Armor putting up a total 4 in the first half. The Armor’s Adam Harrington, and the 66ers’ DeVon Hardin and Byron Mullens, were benched early in the second due to foul trouble with three a piece. Mullins was charged with a technical foul at 8:42. At the half, the score was Tulsa 40, Springfield 35.
In the third, the Armor and 66ers matched fairly equally from the field with a shooting percentage of 34.5 and 38.3 respectively. Tulsa started to pull away when they shot 85.7% from the line, resulting in a 12 point lead at the end of the third.
At 4:14 left in the game, Maurice Maxwell was charged with two technical fouls and ejected. JamesOn Curry shot two three pointers and ended the game with 15 points. Major Wingate, the Armor’s top scorer of the night, ended with 18. Tulsa’s leading scorer, Cecil Brown had a 10 point scoring run for the 66ers and scored a total 16 of the teams 30 4th quarter points. Brown had 23 points on the night.
The Armor added two new players to their roster tonight, including Morris Almond and T.J. Cummings, however, since they were unable to receive their physicals in time, the two newcomers didn’t see any game time, but will make their Springfield Armor debut this Saturday when the Armor and the 66ers face off again at the MassMutual Center at noon.
Tulsa’s record now moves to 3-4, while the Armor slip to 0-5 on the season.
