Springfield Armor Announce 2009-10 Season Schedule

SPRINGFIELD, MA August 13, 2009 – The NBA Development League today announced its 2009-10 season schedule, featuring the first 50 games in the history of the Springfield Armor.

The Armor officially will begin its tenure in the NBA D-League with a home game against the Iowa Energy on Friday, November 27th. Springfield and Iowa also will square off the following day at the MassMutual Center, marking the first of three consecutive Saturdays with a home game for the Armor.

Fourteen of the Armor’s 24 home games will take place on either Friday or Saturday. Click here for the Armor's complete 2009-10 season schedule. All times are local.

“We are thrilled with how our first schedule played out,” Principal Owner Michael Savit said. “Being able to open at home is huge, and having so many weekend dates – especially early – will afford people from throughout the Pioneer Valley to get a first-hand account of the excitement we’re bringing to the MassMutual Center and, more broadly, to the community.”

The Armor and New England’s other NBA D-League team, the Maine Red Claws, will match up nine times, beginning with a home-and-home series Friday, December 4th at Maine and Saturday, December 5th in Springfield. The rivalry between the Armor and the Red Claws, who are affiliated with the Boston Celtics, could gain some significant momentum in January as the teams play each other five consecutive times from January 8th through January 21st.

“Having a geographic rival in Maine will be great for adding to the passion the community already has generated for Springfield Armor basketball,” Armor General Manager Alex Schwerin said. “The fact that they are affiliated with the Boston Celtics likely will enhance the rivalry’s development and create an increased buzz at our games.”

The Armor will host the Fort Wayne Mad Ants in their home finale on Thursday, April 1st before concluding their regular-season slate on the road against the Erie BayHawks. Also highlighting the 2009-10 NBA D-League schedule is the All-Star Game and Dream Factory, which is part of NBA Jam Session presented by adidas at NBA All-Star 2010 in Dallas. The Armor also will participate in the 2010 NBA D-League Showcase, which will take place from January 4-7 at Qwest Arena in Boise, Idaho.

For the first time, the NBA D-League will feature two conferences, East and West, for the 2009-10 season with the Armor and Red Claws joining the Eastern Conference. The Eastern Conference will consist of the Dakota Wizards, BayHawks, Mad Ants, Energy, Red Claws, Sioux Falls Skyforce and Armor, while the Western Conference includes the Albuquerque Thunderbirds, Austin Toros, Bakersfield Jam, Los Angeles D-Fenders, Idaho Stampede, Reno Bighorns, Rio Grande Valley Vipers, Tulsa 66ers and Utah Flash.
