Preston Knowles Signs with Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, MA- The Springfield Armor announced today that they have acquired 6’1 guard Preston Knowles from the NBA D-League’s available player pool. To make room on the roster, the Armor waived Travis Cohn.

Knowles, 22, joins the Armor after a brief stint with SK Dnipro Azot Dniprodzerzhynsk of the Ukraine-Superleague.

Knowles was an All-Big East Second team selection during his senior year at Louisville in the 2010-11 season. As a senior, Knowles averaged 14.6 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 34 games. He finished tied for third in the Big East in steals, averaging 1.9 per game.

In his junior season, Knowles was the top three-point shooter in the Big East, connecting on 44.4% of his shots from behind the arc. He averaged 7.2 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 20.1 minutes.

Knowles was a teammate and backcourt mate of current Armor guard and Louisville product, Jerry Smith, for three seasons (2007-2010).

Cohn, whom the Armor acquired through the team’s local player tryouts, averaged 6.1 points in 14 games (one start) during the 2011-12 season. He scored a season-high 19 points in the Armor’s game on Dec. 15.

Knowles, a native of Winchester, KY, will wear jersey No. 13 and will be available today when the Armor take on the Los Angeles D-Fenders in the teams’ first game of the NBA D-League’s annual Showcase at 3:45 PM EST. The game will be nationally televised on NBA TV.
