Fort Wayne Powers Past Armor
The Mad Ants – notorious for their slow starts – jumped out to an 11-2 lead thanks to 8 quick points from Rod Wilmont. Springfield recovered to bring the score to 13-9, but that is when Wayne Chism took over. Chism dominated the middle by scoring 9 points and 7 boards in the quarter. The Ants rode that Chism led wave to a 33-22 first quarter lead.
Springfield played even with the Mad Ants in the second quarter due to the fine play of Tony Bobbitt. The wily veteran – who scored 10 in the first quarter to keep the Armor in the game – pumped in 8 second quarter points for a game high 18 points at the half. Despite his fine play, he was not able to put much of a dent into the Mad Ants lead, as the home team put forth a well balanced quarter to go into half time with a 54-45 lead.
That was as close as the Armor would get, however, as the Mad Ants ran away with the game in the second half. The Ants were on cruise control from throughout the third and fourth period, as they closed out the game with hot shooting from Corey Allmond ( 12 points on 4 three pointers in the fourth quarter) and some flashy assists from Carlos English (7 assists in the quarter).
The Armor were led by Tony Bobbitt’s 23 points, and Eugene Spates added 15 points and 12 boards.
For the Mad Ants, Wayne Chism led the way with 18 points and 13 rebounds, Corey Allmond had 18 points, and Rod Wilmont contributed 17 points for the home team.
