LOCAL PLAYERS SHOW THEIR STUFF AT WEEKEND TRYOUT FOR THE NBA D-LEAGUE'S SPRINGFIELD ARMOR
The Springfield Armor held their first ever local player tryout at the Field House in the Health and Wellness Center at Springfield College this past weekend. With 62 athletes taking the court on Saturday, Head Coach Dee Brown put them through seven hours of drills and scrimmages. Brown was joined by Assistant Coach, Kevin Whitted and other local coaches. Former Celtic player and Coach K.C. Jones was there to address the crowd as well. At the end of day one, decisions were made and only 32 players were invited back for Sunday’s tryout.
Among the athletes were some familiar names, including former UMass Forward, Dante Milligan, former University of Connecticut guard, Craig Austrie, Hartford Pro-AM MVP Charles “The Beast” Easterling and former Georgia Southern University guard, Julian Allen.
“It was encouraging to see all the talent this and the surrounding areas have to offer,” commented Brown, “I’m looking forward to the next few weeks in which our roster will start to take shape.”
Brown and Assistant Coach Kevin Whitted will be selecting some of the tryout attendees to invite to training camp within the next couple weeks. Training camp will start on November 15th, ten days after the NBA Development League Draft on November 5th.
