PORTLAND, ME -- The Maine Red Claws (0-3) played their first home game of the 2011-2012 season against the Springfield Armor (2-1) tonight at the Portland Expo Arena, falling to their Eastern Conference rivals, 112-104.
The Red Claws kept the game close in the first two quarters with a half-time score of 59-56 in favor of the Armor. The Red Claws battled back to take the lead to end the third quarter, outscoring the Armor 25-17 in the stanza.
Maine was lead by a trio of Chris Wright, Durrell Summers and Kenny Hayes. The three combined for 68 of the 107 points scored. Despite the trio�s efforts, the Armor were victories for their second win over the Red Claws this season, with a very balanced scoring attack and five players scoring in double figures.
Chris Wright led all scorers with 27 points as the rookie continues to excel. Kenny Hayes played a very solid game, scoring 20 while adding 9 assists. Brownlee provided a nice spark off the bench scoring 13 points. Durrell Summers added 21 of his own, shooting better than 50 percent from the floor.
For the visitors, Dennis Horner led with 20 points, while Jeff Foote and Lance Hurdle added 19 apiece. Jerry Smith and JamesOn Curry added 18 and 16, respectively.
The Red Claws will host the Fort Wayne Mad Ants tomorrow evening at 5 PM. The game will feature a special appearance by Boston Celtics mascot Lucky as the irrepressible leprechaun will join Red Claws mascot Crusher in entertaining the crowd. The December 4 game vs. the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, which is presented by Hannaford Supermarkets, will also feature a food drive to benefit the Good Shepherd Food Bank. All fans bringing a canned good or other nonperishable food item will be entered to win great Red Claws prizes. The Armor will be idle until Thursday when they host the Red Claws in a rematch at the MassMutual Center in Springfield.
