SPRINGFIELD, MA August 26, 2009 – The NBA Development League today announced that the Springfield Armor will have the first pick in its 2009 Expansion Draft, which will take place via teleconference from the NBA D-League Office in New York on Wednesday, September 2nd beginning at 2 p.m.
The Armor, which will participate in the 10-round expansion draft with the Maine Red Claws, was chosen to select first via a random drawing conducted by an independent agency. The order of selection will alternate in each round, such that the team selecting second in the first round (Maine) will select first in the second round.
Both the Armor and the Red Claws will have the ability to select from the returning player lists of the Anaheim Arsenal and Colorado 14ers, which won the league championship in April. Springfield and Maine will be selecting the rights to the players drafted and will submit a list of its selected players, in order of preference, to the NBA D-League Office to pursue contracts.
“(Assistant coach) Kevin Whitted and I diligently have been researching all the players available to us in the expansion draft and will put the Armor in the best possible position to hit the ground running with experienced NBA D-League players,” Armor Head Coach and Director of Basketball Operations Dee Brown said.
