Armor Re-Acquire Jerry Smith

SPRINGFIELD, MA- The Springfield Armor announced today that they have re-acquired guard Jerry Smith. Smith will be available when the Armor take on the Maine Red Claws on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. ET in Springfield. To make room on the roster, the Armor waived Eugene Spates.

Smith (6-2, 190, Louisville) returns to the Armor after earning his first-career GATORADE Call-Up with the Armor’s NBA affiliate, the New Jersey Nets. He made his NBA debut on March 16 against the Orlando Magic, scoring 5 points, grabbing 2 rebounds, dishing out 3 assists and picking up 2 steals in 20 minutes off the Nets’ bench. In five games with New Jersey, Smith averaged 1.4 points, 1.4 rebounds and 1.0 steals in 9.2 minutes.

Prior to joining the Nets, Smith played in 32 games, 29 starts, with the Armor, averaging a team-high 19.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.9 steals in 34.5 minutes. He posted a team-high 15 games with 20 or more points and was named a 2012 NBA Development League All-Star, the NBA D-League’s Player of the Month in February and the league’s ‘Performer of the Week’ for games played between Jan. 30-Feb. 6. Smith also had a stint with the Nets in their training camp early in the season, appearing in one preseason game before returning to Springfield.

The Armor continue their final homestand of the regular season this week with a game against the Maine Red Claws at 7:00 p.m. ET. The Armor conclude the week with back-to-back games against the Sioux Falls Skyforce on Thursday and Friday, with both games also scheduled to tip at 7:00 p.m.
