Armor Down Streaking Toros
Cedar Park, TX April 6, 2012- The Austin Toros’ winning streak of nine games came to a halt Friday night at Cedar Park Center as they lost to the Springfield Armor, 110-99.
Springfield was able to keep the first quarter close as JamesOn Curry had 11 points in the period. Two straight shots made by Jamarr Sanders in the last minute of the quarter allowed the Toros to take a 29-27 lead into the second quarter.
The Toros added to their lead in the second quarter, at one point owning a ten-point lead, 45-35. Springfield started to gain momentum and reduced the lead to two points. Flip Murray made a lay-up with two seconds left to give the Toros a 57-52 lead at the half.
The Armor came out strong in the third quarter, going on an 11-0 run and taking the lead. Despite being down by six at one point, the Toros were able to tie the game at 82 just before the fourth quarter.
Springfield picked up where they left off in the third quarter by jumping out to a ten-point lead in the waning minutes of the fourth quarter. The Toros would reduce the Armor lead by seven points, but the Toros were unable to complete the comeback.
Eric Dawson earned his 23rd double-double of the season with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Cory Joseph led the Toros in scoring with 20 points and five assists. Sanders, in a standout game, tied his season high of 18 points.
Jeff Foote had a double-double for Springfield with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Jerry Smith led the Armor in scoring with 27 points.
