Armor Announce Open Player Tryout Dates and Details
The Springfield tryout will take place at the Springfield College Field House, 263 Alden Street, Springfield, Mass. Check-in begins at 8:00 a.m. with the tryout set to begin at 9:00 a.m.
Open tryouts offer players an opportunity to showcase their talents in front of Armor coaches and front office personnel while they compete to earn an invitation to the team's training camp in November. The Armor have had nine players appear in a regular season game after making the team through local player tryouts in three seasons.
The Armor will be led this season by first-year head coach Doug Overton, who spent the previous five years as an assistant coach and player development coach with the Nets, and assistant coach Chris Carrawell, who returns to Springfield for his third season with the Armor.
Interested players should submit completed registration and release forms along with a $150 non-refundable participation fee to the Armor office (One Monarch Place, Suite 220, Springfield, MA 01144). Late registration is $200 for all forms received after Tuesday, Oct. 15 (for the Springfield tryout).
The Armor held an open player tryout in New Jersey on Saturday, September 28. NBA veterans Cliff Robinson and Zendon Hamilton (also a former Armor player) were among the coaches assisting Armor head coach Doug Overton and Nets' rookie, Mason Plumlee, spoke to all of the tryout participants on hand during a break in the action. Tryouts in Springfield are closed to the general public. Only players and staff from the Brooklyn Nets and Springfield Armor will be permitted inside the tryout facilities.
