NEW YORK, April 13, 2010 – The Minnesota Timberwolves today signed center Greg Stiemsma of the Sioux Falls Skyforce, making him the record 39th GATORADE Call-Up of the 2009-10 NBA Development League season. Stiemsma joins 84 current NBA players with NBA D-League experience.
Stiemsma appeared in 45 games, 44 starts, for Sioux Falls during the 2009-10 NBA D-League regular season, averaging 8.8 points, 7.1 rebounds and 3.6 blocks in 28.0 minutes. He scored in double figures 24 times, recording 11 double-doubles and one triple-double, when he scored 20 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and blocked 10 shots in a 107-105 victory over the Springfield Armor in Sioux Falls on Dec. 27, 2009.
In the 2010 NBA D-League postseason, Stiemsma played in all three of Sioux Falls’ games, averaging 15.0 points, 10.7 rebounds and 31.0 minutes before Sioux Falls was eliminated from playoff contention by the Tulsa 66ers on Sunday.
Stiemsma, 6-11, 260-pounds out of the University of Wisconsin, averaged 3.5 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.1 blocks during 35 games in his final season with the Badgers in 2008. That year, the team was the Big 10 Regular Season Champions and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
Stiemsma is expected to join the Timberwolves today and be available on Wednesday, April 14, when the team hosts the Detroit Pistons.
