Skyforce Makes Roster Moves

Sioux Falls, S.D. (Jan. 4, 2011) – The Sioux Falls Skyforce announced today that the team has acquired guard Maureece Rice from the Erie BayHawks in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2011 NBA Development League Draft. Sioux Falls also acquired forward/center Cory Underwood from the available player pool. To make room for the new players on the roster the team waived guard Tommy Mason-Griffin and center Anwar Ferguson. The active roster now stands at 10 players.

Rice averaged 18.7 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists in 50 games (48 starts) for Erie in 2008-09 and recorded a team-high 33 points and seven assists in their lone playoff game. He averaged 10.5 points and 2.3 rebounds in 112 games (54 starts) over four seasons at George Washington and was named Atlantic 10 Sixth Man of the Year following his sophomore season. The 6-1, 225-pound guard scored 2,681 points in his prep career to surpass Wilt Chamberlain’s Philadelphia high school scoring record of 2,206 points.

Underwood holds NBA D-League career averages of 7.9 points and 3.7 rebounds in 76 games (32 starts) with the Albuquerque Thunderbirds (62), Dakota Wizards (10) and Idaho Stampede (4). His most productive season came in 2008-09 when he averaged 11.6 points and 5.1 rebounds while shooting 50 percent (89-of-178) from the field. The 6-10, 235-pound forward/center participated in training camp with the Philadelphia 76ers in the fall of 2008 and is also a frequent participant in the Entertainers Basketball Classic at Rucker Park in New York City.

The Skyforce’s next game is on Friday, Jan. 7 on the road against the Erie BayHawks. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. CT at Tullio Arena.
