Timberwolves Assign Nathan Jawai to Skyforce
Sioux Falls, S.D. (February 19, 2010) – The Sioux Falls Skyforce announced today the assignment of Minnesota Timberwolves forward Nathan Jawai. He is the 15th NBA player assigned to an NBA D-League affiliate this season and is expected to be in uniform tonight against the Dakota Wizards.
The second-year forward appeared in 36 games, two starts, for the Timberwolves this season, averaging 3.3 points and 2.7 rebounds in 10.8 minutes. During his rookie campaign, Jawai played in six games for the Toronto Raptors and was assigned to the Idaho Stampede. During his two assignments in Boise he averaged 11.1 points and 6.4 rebounds while shooting 52.6 percent from the field in 14 games.
Originally selected in the second round (41st overall) of the 2008 NBA Draft by the Indiana Pacers, Jawai was acquired by the Raptors from Indiana on July 9, 2008. He was traded from Toronto to the Dallas Mavericks on July 9, 2009 before being acquired by the Timberwolves from Dallas on Oct. 20, 2009.
Prior to entering the NBA Draft, Jawai played one season in the Australian National Basketball League (NBL) where he averaged 17.3 points and 9.4 rebounds for the Cairns Taipans.
The Skyforce also waived guard Mike Nelson due to injury. The active roster now stands at 10 players.
The Skyforce's next game is tonight at home against the Dakota Wizards. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. CT at the Sioux Falls Arena.
