Darren Kohne enters his first season as an assistant coach for the Skyforce. He joins the professional ranks after working in Division I college basketball the past 12 seasons.
Kohne served as assistant coach/recruiting coordinator for the menís basketball team at Central Michigan University from 2006-12. For three straight years (2009, 2010 and 2011) and four times overall (2007), CMUís recruiting class was ranked atop the Mid-American Conference by hoopsonline.com. Prior to his six-year run at CMU, Kohne was an assistant coach at Stephen F. Austin State University (2003-06) and High Point University (2002-03) in addition to serving as an administrative assistant at Bowling Green State University (2000-02).
Kohne also has AAU and high school coaching experience. He was the head coach of the T-Town Boyz AAU program from 1993-00. The 1998 squad won the NAYB national championship and a total of 12 players during his tenure went on to play at the collegiate level. The Toledo, Ohio native was an assistant varsity coach for the boyís basketball team at Bowsher High School (1999-00) and girlís basketball team at Notre Dame Academy (1998-99).
The 35-year-old earned a bachelorís degree in Business Management (2000) and masterís degree in Business Administration (2003) from the University of Toledo.
