Skyforce Defeats Wizards With Team Effort
WATERTOWN, S.D., Nov. 19 - The Sioux Falls Skyforce had seven players in double figures as they used a team effort to defeat the Dakota Wizards 105-93 in preseason action today in Watertown, S.D. Andre Brown, the second overall selection in the 2006 D-League Draft, led the host team with 17 points and seven rebounds.
The home team got off to a quick start as they led 31-23 after one quarter behind nine points from Andre Brown. Dakota chipped away at the deficit and finally took their first lead of the game (49-48) with under a minute to go in the first half. Chris Rodgers hit a late three-pointer for the Skyforce which gave them a 52-49 lead going into halftime.
Dakota got things going early in the third quarter as they took there largest lead of the game (60-53) three minutes into the second half. James Maye led the charge for the Wizards as he scored 10 of his game-high 22 points in the third quarter. Sioux Falls responded as Andre Brown scored eight points in the quarter to cut the lead to one point (79-78) heading into the final stanza.
Sioux Falls went on a 14-3 run to begin the final quarter that was capitalized with an emphatic dunk by Joseph Works that pushed the lead to double-digits (92-82) with 7:30 remaining in the preseason contest. Dakota would make things interesting as they cut the lead to two points (94-92) with three minutes to go in the game, however, Sioux Falls would end the game on an 11-1 run to seal the victory.
