Skyforce to Pick Fourth in 2008 NBA Development League Draft
Sioux Falls, S.D. (October 14, 2008) – The Sioux Falls Skyforce received the fourth pick in the 2008 NBA Development League Draft through a lottery conducted at the annual coaches meeting on Tuesday. The draft will take place live from the NBA TV studio in Atlanta, Ga. on Friday, Nov. 7 at 6 p.m. CT.
The Tulsa 66ers will have the first overall pick in a serpentine selection process, followed by the Colorado 14ers, Idaho Stampede, Sioux Falls Skyforce, Bakersfield Jam, Fort Wayne Mad Ants, Erie BayHawks, Anaheim Arsenal, Utah Flash, Reno Bighorns, Dakota Wizards, Rio Grande Valley Vipers, Los Angeles D-Fenders, Albuquerque Thunderbirds, Iowa Energy and Austin Toros.
The draft is “serpentine” or “snaked” which means the order will be reversed in each of the 10 rounds. For example, after picking first, Tulsa’s next selections will be the 32nd and 33rd overall. The Austin Toros will select last in the first round, but first in the second round, giving them the 16th and 17th picks overall.
Each of the NBA D-League’s 16 teams will be given one pick in each round. No trades will be permitted during the draft and only players signed to an NBA Development League Standard Player Contract are eligible to be selected.
“With the draft order in place, we’re one step closer to getting the 2008-09 season underway,” said Chris Alpert, Vice President of Basketball Operations and Player Personnel for the NBA D-League. “It’s exciting to welcome top NBA prospects into our draft and our league.”
In addition to the fourth overall pick, Sioux Falls will also select 29th, 36th, 61st, 68th, 93rd, 100th, 125th, 132nd and 157th overall in the 160-player draft.
