Sioux Falls' Jarvis Varnado Signs with the Miami Heat

It's the 2nd GATORADE Call-Up for Varnado and the NBA D-League's 13th Call-Up of the 2012-13 season

NEW YORK, Jan. 9, 2013 The Miami Heat today signed Sioux Falls Skyforce forward Jarvis Varnado for the 13th GATORADE Call-up of the 2012-13 NBA Development League season. Varnado joins more than 115 players with NBA D-League experience currently on NBA rosters.

Originally selected by the Heat in the second round (41st overall) of the 2010 NBA Draft, Varnado (6-9, 210, Mississippi State) returns to Miami having spent the 2012 preseason with the Heat before being waived prior to the start of the season. Varnado joins the Heat following a stint earlier this season with the Boston Celtics, when he played in five games averaging 1.5 points. He was waived by Boston on Jan. 6.

Varnado appeared in 10 games for the Skyforce, averaging 14.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, 30.5 minutes and a league-leading 3.9 blocks before earning his first GATORADE Call-Up on Dec. 24, 2012. He finished with six double-doubles and recorded season-highs of 21 points and eight blocks on Nov. 30 at Springfield and tallied a season-high 16 rebounds at Austin on Dec. 22. For his efforts, he was named NBA D-League Performer of the Week on Dec. 3.

Varnado is expected to join the Heat today and be available on Thursday when the team travels to face the Portland Trail-Blazers at the Rose Garden.
