Santa Cruz Warriors Edge Bakersfield in Final Preseason Contest

The Santa Cruz Warriors finished the 2013-14 preseason with a 103-97 win over the Bakersfield Jam Sunday evening, improving the teamís exhibition record to 2-0.

Cameron Jones led the way for Santa Cruz with 28 points, including 14 in the fourth quarter and 11 at the free throw line. Seth Curry finished with 27 points, seven assists and two steals. The Warriorsí big man tandem of Kevin Kotzur and Dewayne Dedmon each finished with a double-double Ė Kotzur had 19 points and 15 rebounds on 9-10 shooting while Dedmon had 17 points, 12 boards and five blocks.

Bakersfield received its biggest offensive contribution from Jared Cunningham, currently on assignment from the Atlanta Hawks. He led the Jam with 22 points, while forward James Nunnally contributed a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

The Jam led by as many as 11 early in the second quarter, but Santa Cruz went on a 17-4 run, including three dunks by Dedmon in a two-minute span, to take a three-point lead at intermission. Bakersfield regained a seven-point advantage early in the final frame, but the Warriors went ahead 95-93 on a Dedmon fade away jumper with 3:42 left and never looked back.

Santa Cruz shot 44.6% from the field and 75.8% from the free throw line, while Bakersfield shot 37.9% from the floor and 68% from the foul stripe. The Warriors blocked 10 shots to the Jamís three, and held the edge in assists (21-20) and rebounds (51-49).

To cap off NBA D-League Cares Week, the Warriors celebrated local artists and donated all proceeds from tonightís game to the Tannery Arts Center. Together with Santa Cruz County Bank, Devcon Construction, Gateway School, Lighthouse Bank, Wells Fargo, Community Printers, Santa Cruz New Tech MeetUp and The Good Times, the Warriors raised more than $25,000 for the new Performing Arts Center.

The Warriors will be back in action at Kaiser Permanente Arena for the teamís regular season opener on Friday, Nov. 22 at 7:30 p.m. against the Austin Toros. Tickets are still available at for Opening Night and the next four games of the teamís season-opening homestand.
