Santa Cruz Warriors Add Mychel Thompson

The Santa Cruz Warriors have added forward Mychel Thompson to the roster, the team announced today. Thompson’s rights were acquired on November 4 in a trade with the Sioux Falls Skyforce in exchange for the rights to Ryan Evans. Thompson replaces Dewayne Dedmon on the training camp roster after Dedmon’s GATORADE Call-Up to the Golden State Warriors.

Thompson, 25, appeared in 74 games over two seasons in the NBA D-League with the Erie BayHawks and Sioux Falls Skyforce, averaging 12.2 points and 3.5 rebounds. Thompson earned a GATORADE Call-Up to the Cleveland Cavaliers during the 2011-12 season, where he averaged 3.6 points in 19.0 minutes over five games. The 6’6”, 211-pound forward was drafted by the Erie BayHawks in the third round (39th overall) of the 2011 NBA D-League Draft and was named to the 2012 NBA D-League All-Rookie Team.

Thompson will wear uniform #15.

The Santa Cruz Warriors’ training camp roster currently stands at 14. The team will open the 2013-14 season at Kaiser Permanente Arena on Friday, November 22 at 7:30 p.m. against the Austin Toros. Tickets are still available at www.santacruzbasketball.com for Opening Night and the following four games of the team’s opening homestand.
