Santa Cruz Warriors Add Phil Hubbard And James Andrisevic As Assistant Coaches

The Santa Cruz Warriors have hired Phil Hubbard and James Andrisevic as assistant coaches on Head Coach Casey Hill’s staff, the team announced today. Per team policy, terms of the agreements were not announced.

Hubbard brings more than 30 years of experience to Santa Cruz, most recently completing the 2012-13 season as an assistant coach with the Los Angeles D-Fenders, the NBA D-League affiliate of the Los Angeles Lakers. He helped lead the D-Fenders to the most regular season wins in NBA D-League history and a berth in the D-League Finals during the 2011-12 season. Since 1995, Hubbard has held assistant coaching positions with the Atlanta Hawks, Washington Wizards and Golden State Warriors. During his stint under Eddie Jordan in Washington, the team made four postseason appearances, and Hubbard was a member of the coaching staff of the Eastern Conference All-Star Team in 2007. Drafted 15th overall by the Detroit Pistons in the 1979 NBA Draft after a standout career at the University of Michigan, Hubbard averaged 10.9 points per game during his 10 years in the league with the Pistons and Cleveland Cavaliers. In addition to his NBA accolades, Hubbard won a gold medal with the United States Men’s National Basketball Team at the Montreal Olympics in 1976.

Andrisevic comes to Santa Cruz after serving as head coach of BC Prievidza in Slovakia. Previously, he was the head coach of Asker BC in the top basketball league in Norway, advancing to the championship round after leading the youngest team in the history of the league to a 15-6 record. While studying to complete his M.B.A., Andrisevic worked as the men’s basketball coordinator at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. He played professionally in Germany, Denmark and England after a three-year collegiate career at Arizona State University, where he played alongside former Golden State Warrior Ike Diogu.

“I’m thrilled to add two coaches with championship pedigrees to my staff,” said Santa Cruz Warriors Head Coach Casey Hill. “Phil and James bring a tradition of winning to Santa Cruz, and their combined experience will help develop young talent on all aspects of the game. I am eager to get to work with them on building a team that will compete at the highest level of the NBA D-League.”

Hubbard and Andrisevic will join Hill to scout talent at the open tryout sessions, which take place on October 6 in Santa Cruz and October 19 in Oakland. Details on open tryouts can be found at www.santacruzbasketball.com.
