Wizards Tip-Off Dinner And Celebration Recap

The Wizards hosted more than 700 people for an evening of fun at the club’s Tip-Off Dinner and Celebration on Thursday at the Bismarck Civic Center. Season Ticket Holders, sponsors and community leaders attended the event, which featured several special guests from the Golden State Warriors – the owning and operating body of the Dakota Wizards. The evening started with high expectations and concluded with those attending the event providing the Warriors' brass with a standing ovation following individual comments and a Q & A session with the featured guests.
Among those making the trek to Bismarck for the festive evening were Warriors Owner Joe Lacob, Warriors Executive Board Member Jerry West and Vice President of Basketball Operations and Assistant General Manager Bob Myers. Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Larry Riley was originally scheduled to attend the event, but a recent surgical procedure on his right shoulder kept him from doing so. Wizards Head Coach Nate Bjorkgren and General Manager Kirk Lacob were also on hand to meet and greet some of the Wizards’ biggest fans and sponsors.
For many in the Warriors contingent, this marked their first trip to Bismarck. The Warriors, who became the fourth team to own and operate their own NBA D-League affiliate upon purchasing the Wizards in June, used the Tip-Off Dinner and Celebration as an opportunity to show some support for the franchise and reach out to the Bismarck fans and community and business leaders.
In addition to Thursday’s event, Warriors and Wizards executives also took part in a media tour of sorts, complete with TV and radio appearances throughout the week, as well as dinners and golf meetings with various community leaders – including Bismarck Mayor John Warford – and corporate sponsors.
