Santa Cruz Warriors Edge D-Fenders in Thriller
Warriors Season Record Stands at 32-15


The Santa Cruz Warriors defeated the Los Angeles D-Fenders 101-100 Saturday night and moved back to one game behind the Bakersfield Jam for top in the NBA D-League.

The Warriors were led by Jeremy Tyler, who scored a season-high and game-high 31 points off the bench. Travis Leslie added 19 points, while Taylor Griffin had 11 points and eight boards.

The D-Fenders were paced by Mike Taylor, who scored 24 off the bench. Elijah Millsap scored 22 and dished out a game-high seven assists, while Jerome Jordan had the lone double-double of the evening with 10 points and 11 boards.

Santa Cruz held Los Angeles to just 13 points in the first quarter – an opponent low this season – but the D-Fenders poured in 33 points in the second quarter and led by one at the half. The D-Fenders led by as much as six in the third quarter, but entered the final frame ahead just one. The Warriors gained as much as an 11 point lead, but the D-Fenders went on a 10-0 run late in the fourth and took the lead with 22.8 seconds left. The Warriors couldn’t convert on the next possession, but Mike Taylor stepped out of bounds with 14.9 seconds in the game and gave the Warriors another chance. Jeremy Tyler hit a driving layup to put the Warriors up 101-100 and the D-Fenders came up short at the buzzer.

The D-Fenders held the edge on field goal shooting (49.3%-46.2%), but the Warriors won the rebound battle (40-38) and dished out more assists (22-21).
