Grind Out Hunger is a local nonprofit that empowers the youth to raise funds and awareness for the roughly 20,000 children who go hungry in the Santa Cruz area. In our inaugural season, we helped raise $24,394 to combat hunger in the community. Together, we pride ourselves on promoting healthy eating and active lifestyles for local children.
This partnership, made possible by founding sponsor Plantronics, will help educate fans and recruit Hunger Warriors in the fight against childhood hunger. At every home game, Grind Out Hunger is instantly recognizable, with its own special section behind the basket at the Kaiser Permanente Arena, enabling the nonprofit to grow its audience by reaching passionate and community-minded sports fans.
Grind Out Hunger also raises funds through a mini-ball toss at every home game. Fans can purchase branded mini-basketballs and throw them onto the court at the end of the third quarter, winning prizes if their ball makes it into a bucket. The ball toss is presented by YogurtLand, which has partnered with Grind Out Hunger on numerous occasions.
