Wizards Acquire Tommy Smith

The Dakota Wizards have announced the acquisition of forward Tommy Smith, who most recently attended Golden State Warriors training camp. Dakota then waived guard Travis Walton to make room for Smith.

Dakota was able to claim Smith’s rights through the league’s “Affiliate Player” rule that allows NBA Development League affiliates to acquire up to three players that were waived from their affiliate’s training camp, and who do not otherwise have their rights held by another team.

Smith, 6-10 215 from Arizona State was drafted by the Chicago Bulls in the 2nd round (53rd overall) of the 2003 NBA Draft. He averaged 11.2 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.2 blocks in 32 games played for the Bulls. As a senior, led the Pac-10 in blocks per game at 2.16 and earned All-Pac-10 Honorable Mention. Smith did not miss a game in his 122 game career(71 starts) at Arizona State.

The current roster stands at 10 players.

Season tickets and 5-ticket flex packs for the 2011-12 season are on sale. Single game tickets can be purchased at Ticketmaster or the Civic Center Box Office. Discounts are available for groups of 10 or more. For more information contact the Dakota Wizards at (701) 258-2255.
