Head Coach Clay Moser

In July 2008, the Vipers introduced Clay Moser as the franchise’s second head coach. Moser returns to the bench after spending the last several years as an NBA scout and minor league team executive. Moser began his coaching career before graduating from college, serving as head assistant coach for Fergus Falls Junior College in 1984. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in 1987 with a bachelor’s degree in sports management, Moser moved to an NCAA Division I coaching position as an assistant to the legendary coach Jim Valvano at North Carolina State University.

In 1989, Moser made his first venture into professional minor league basketball, joining the CBA Sioux Falls Skyforce (now a member of the NBA D-League). In Sioux Falls, Moser began as Assistant Coach and Assistant Director of Basketball Operations, and was promoted in 1992 to Vice President and General Manager. Moser left the Skyforce in 1994 to work in the CBA league office as its Senior Vice President and Vice President of Basketball Operations.

Upon gaining extensive experience in both basketball and business operations, Moser continued his career as an Advance Scout in the NBA for the Golden State Warriors, Sacramento Kings, and most recently, the Orlando Magic. Moser also has served as the CEO/General Manager of the Idaho Stampede and Vice President of Business Development for the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets.
