MCALLEN, Texas – The NBA Development League Rio Grande Valley Vipers today announced the public events that will take place during Rocket Launch 2012. This year’s Rocket Launch will blast off Oct. 2-6 when the Houston Rockets hold training camp locally in the Rio Grande Valley at the McAllen Convention Center. On Oct. 10 at 7 p.m., the Rockets will open the 2012-13 season with a NBA preseason contest against the Oklahoma City Thunder, presented by State Farm at State Farm Arena.
“We are once again excited to bring the Houston Rockets training camp and a NBA game to the Rio Grande Valley. Throughout training camp, fans will have several opportunities to meet Rockets coaches and players. It’s been two years since the Rockets were in the Valley, and we are proud to offer our fans and community NBA entertainment,” Vipers president Bert Garcia said.
Throughout Rockets training camp at the McAllen Convention Center, local schools will also have the opportunity to schedule visits to attend portions of these practice sessions. For more information on how your school can attend, contact the Vipers front office.
Aside from NBA training camp, Rockets players and coaches will make several public appearances to meet with their local fans. The team’s first appearance will be at a Casino Night VIP Reception Thursday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m., held at the home of Vipers owners Alonzo and Yoli Cantu. Rockets coaches, players and front office personnel will be in attendance and serving as blackjack dealers for this VIP event. Tickets to the reception are $200 and may be purchased by calling the Vipers at 956-972-1144.
On Friday, Oct. 5, Rockets Jeremy Lin and Chandler Parsons will visit Vipers Title Sponsor Lone Star National Bank, located at 520 East Nolana, McAllen, for an autograph signing from 2-3 p.m. The autograph signing is free and open to the public. That afternoon, Rockets players will also make an appearance at the Children’s Center at Renaissance to meet and sign autographs for pediatric patients.
The Rockets will close RGV Training Camp with an open practice Saturday, Oct. 6, from noon-2 p.m. at the UTPA Fieldhouse. Be the first to get a glimpse of the Rockets in action before they open the 2012-13 season. Following practice, the team will be available for an autograph session presented by Warehouse Pool Supply. This event is free and open to the general public.
The conclusion of Rocket Launch 2012 will take place when Jeremy Lin and the Rockets kick off the 2012-13 season against the Olympic Gold Medal winning Big Three of the OKC Thunder Oct. 10 at State Farm Arena.
